Almost nobody visits a church cold anymore. They search first. They look you up, read a little, glance at the photos, and decide whether to come, all before you ever meet them. If they cannot find you, or what they find is confusing, they quietly move on.

Local search is everything

For churches, the game is local. When someone types churches near me or church in your town, Google leans heavily on a few signals to decide who to show. The good news is that most churches barely compete here, so a little effort goes a long way.

The basics that move the needle

  • Claim and complete your Google Business Profile, with accurate service times, address, and photos.
  • Put your town and service times in plain text on your site, not buried inside an image.
  • Give every page a clear, descriptive title, since that is often the first thing people read in search results.
  • Make the site fast and mobile-friendly, which Google rewards and visitors expect.
  • Keep it current. A site that clearly has not been touched in two years reads as closed to a newcomer.

It is not magic

You do not need to trick Google. You need to clearly be the thing people are looking for, and make that easy for both a search engine and a nervous first-time visitor to understand. Do the basics well and you will show up for the people right around you.

Every site I build is structured for search from the ground up. If yours is invisible on Google, let's fix that.
